Cockroach Janata Party: What is "Cockroach Janata Party", which is trending rapidly on social media?

Let us know what "Cockroach Janata Party" is, why it was formed and why it is becoming so popular among Gen Z and the youth.

How did the Cockroach Janata Party start?

The Cockroach Janata Party is not an official political party, but a satirical online movement that emerged on social media. Recently, a comment by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant became a topic of great debate on social media. During the hearing of a case, he said that some unemployed youth, who do not get jobs, are like cockroaches, who attack the system by becoming media, social media or RTI activists.

The party emerged as a sarcastic response to comments made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on 15 May 2026, in which he compared unemployed youth to "cockroaches" and "parasites of society".

The comment sparked sharp reactions on social media. Meanwhile, 30-year-old graduate Abhijeet Dipke launched an online political initiative, jokingly called the "Cockroach Janata Party," to protest the statement and express his anger.

Initially created solely as a satire and joke, it quickly went viral on social media. A large number of young people joined the movement, turning it into a symbolic platform to express their anger over unemployment, lack of opportunities, and other problems faced by youth. Today, the "Cockroach Janata Party" is no longer just an internet meme; for many young people, it has become a symbol of dissatisfaction and sarcastic protest against the system. This is why this trend is becoming increasingly popular, especially among Gen Z and social media users.

Who formed the Cockroach Janata Party?

Abhijeet Dipke is a 30-year-old Boston University student and political communications strategist who previously worked with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), although he started the Cockroach Janata Party as an independent satirical online movement. Abhijeet Dipke works in the fields of political communication and public relations (PR).

The movement humorously describes itself as "a political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth - secular, socialist, democratic and lazy." Its ironic membership criteria require members to be unemployed, constantly online, and capable of "professional venting." As of today (May 21, 2026), media reports indicate that the Cockroach Janta Party has over 17 million followers on Instagram, far surpassing the BJP's 8.8 million followers. And it continues to grow. " The Cockroach Janta Party account was launched on May 16. Within 4 days, the account was banned because it had over 200,000 followers," the founder posted on X. Mr. Dipke also claimed that an attempt had been made to hack the CJP's Instagram handle. Anurag Kashyap, Dia Mirza, Urfi Javed, Kunal Kamra and many other celebrities are following its Instagram page. This online campaign is now being supported by many well-known personalities from the entertainment world. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, actresses Dia Mirza, Sonakshi Sinha, Esha Gupta and Fatima Sana Shaikh, along with director Kunal Kohli and comedian Kunal Kamra are also following the party's official Instagram page. Many television and digital personalities including Umar Riaz, Urfi Javed, Abhishek Nigam, Himanshi Khurana, Nagma Mirajkar, Purav Jha, Shafaq Naaz and Sheezan Khan are also following the 'Cockroach Janata Party' Instagram page, further increasing its popularity and online reach.

What is in the manifesto of Cockroach Janata Party?

The Cockroach Janata Party's manifesto describes the movement as "secular, socialist, democratic, and lazy" and proposes unconventional ideas such as banning former Chief Justices from holding Rajya Sabha seats after retirement, implementing 50 percent reservation for women in Parliament, and imposing a 20-year electoral ban on MLAs and MPs who defect. What began as a satirical response online has

also led to an outcry from many young people on social media. They say unemployment remains a serious problem in the country, and millions of young people struggle to find jobs despite years of preparation for competitive exams. Some users also questioned why senior officials from the judiciary and bureaucracy are often appointed to governorships, Rajya Sabha positions, or other constitutional positions after retirement. A section of young people is asking why senior officials need to be given public positions even after retirement when a large number of young people in the country are seeking employment. Following this controversy, many young people are raising questions about the judiciary and the system on social media. They say that there was a time when Supreme Court decisions were seen as completely impartial and in the public interest, but now some fear that the possibility of appointments to positions such as governor, Rajya Sabha, or other constitutional positions after retirement raises questions about the independence of the judiciary. Critics allege that this is why some judges appear to be taking a soft stance towards the government. However, there is no concrete evidence publicly available to support these allegations and they are largely the opinions of critics and social media users. The anger of the youth is not limited to this comment alone. They say that the government and the entire system are responsible for problems such as unemployment, delays in recruitment processes, and limited employment opportunities in the country. Many young people feel that their problems and struggles are not taken seriously enough. Some on social media are also raising the question that the path to higher judicial positions differs from the usual competitive examinations. They argue that if those in senior positions had gone through the same rigorous competitive exams and long recruitment waits as today's youth, they might have better understood the struggles of unemployment and finding a job. Furthermore, some social media posts have argued that those who reach high constitutional positions have a different career path than the typical competitive exam path, and therefore, they may not fully understand the job-related challenges faced by young people.
