The Dragon's Eye on Taiwan: Is Asia at risk of a world war? Is the world heading toward another war? The truth behind the China-Taiwan dispute In this blog, we'll explore the China-Taiwan dispute. Why China claims Taiwan, and why Taiwan rejects it. China has consistently asserted sovereignty over Taiwan. It considers Taiwan part of its territory and insists on reunification, even through the use of force if necessary. The United States has shown increasing readiness to support and defend Taiwan. Introduction to Taiwan Taiwan is a small island country located in the East and South China Seas, sandwiched between the East China Sea and the South China Sea. It is approximately 160 kilometers from China. Taiwan is separated from China by the Taiwan Strait. Its neighbors include China to the north, Japan to the south, and the Philippines to the south. The capital of Taiwan is Taipei City, located in its northern part. Its population is approximately 23.9 million. Taiwan's area ...

Hantavirus Alert: A Dangerous Virus Spreading Across the World — Know the Symptoms, Risks, and Prevention

Hantavirus Alert: Dangerous virus spreading in the world, Next Pandemic???

 What is Hantavirus??

Know the symptoms, dangers and prevention-

Hantaviruses  are zoonotic viruses that naturally infect rodents  ( mice, rats, squirrels, prairie dogs, porcupines, beavers, guinea pigs, and hamsters and occasionally spread to humans. Infection in humans can cause severe illness and often death.

Hantavirus affects rodents  ( rats, squirrels, prairie dogs, porcupines, beavers, guinea pigs, and hamsters) .  are a group of viruses that can cause serious illness in humans.

•  People usually become infected through contact with infected rodents  ( mice, rats, squirrels, prairie dogs, porcupines, beavers, guinea pigs, and hamsters ) or their urine, feces, or saliva.

Hantavirus   infection can cause a variety of illnesses, including severe disease and death .

Hantavirus can cause Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome , a severe respiratory illness with a mortality rate of up to 50%.

symptoms

In humans, symptoms typically begin one to eight weeks after infection, depending on the type of virus, and typically include fever, headache, muscle aches, and abdominal symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting.

When the symptoms become serious, then-

1. In Hantavirus  Cardiopulmonary Syndrome (HCPS)  , the illness can rapidly progress to coughing, shortness of breath, fluid accumulation in the lungs, and shock.

Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS)  may  involve low blood pressure, bleeding disorders, and kidney failure  in  the later stages .

treatment

There is no licensed specific antiviral treatment or vaccine available for hantavirus infection .

Early diagnosis of Hantavirus infection can be challenging because its initial symptoms are similar to   other fever or respiratory illnesses, such as influenza, COVID-19, viral pneumonia, leptospirosis, dengue, or sepsis.

Although there is no specific treatment for hantavirus  disease, early supportive medical care increases the chances of survival and focuses on close clinical monitoring and management of respiratory, cardiovascular, and renal complications. Prevention largely depends on minimizing contact between humans and infected rodents.

HCPS Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome  has a very high mortality rate, typically between 20% and 40%, making it a serious public health problem.

Prevention and control

Prevention of Hantavirus  infection depends primarily on reducing contact between humans and rodents ( mice, rats, squirrels, prairie dogs, porcupines, beavers, guinea pigs, and hamsters)  . Effective measures include:

•  Keeping homes and workplaces clean
•  Closing openings through which rats can enter buildings
•  Storing food safely
Using safe cleaning procedures in areas contaminated with rats  .
•  Avoid cleaning rat droppings with a dry broom or vacuum cleaner.
•  Wetting contaminated areas before cleaning .
•  Strengthen hand hygiene practices.

During an outbreak or when cases are suspected, early identification and isolation of cases, monitoring of close contacts, and application of standard infection prevention measures are crucial to limit further spread.

 Hantavirus  alert in India :

The crew members   included two Indian nationals   . The Indian Embassy in Madrid confirmed that both individuals are "healthy and asymptomatic."

Two Indian nationals are among the passengers evacuated from the Hanta Virus-affected cruise ship MV Hondius. After reaching Spain on Sunday, all the passengers were safely disembarked from the cruise ship as per the protocols of the Spanish health authorities and WHO. Both the Indian crew members are completely healthy and have been sent to the Netherlands for further health monitoring. According to information provided by the Indian Embassy in Spain, the Hanta Virus-affected Dutch-flagged ship MV Hondius, carrying around 150 people including two Indian nationals, arrived in Spain on Sunday. Due to the fear of spread of the virus, the ship was anchored some distance off the coast of Canary Islands of Spain.

Hantavirus  surveillance: India deploys 'Viral Shield' comprising 165 laboratories to track spread of virus

According to the official diagnostic framework created by the ICMR-National Institute of Virology (NIV), this   protocol   is designed to take advantage of a limited diagnostic window. The virus is most readily detectable in the blood during the initial fever stage, usually within the first five days of symptom onset (viremia).

By leveraging the Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) network of 165 laboratories, the government has ensured that any samples collected from returning citizens are processed in a short time, eliminating the possibility of community transmission.
